A Lassen Set

“the night we all had dreams | we woke before dawn”

Volcanos are inspirational

Last year, I visited the Lassen-Shasta-Trinity area in Northern California with my aunt and partner. My aunt–book artist, poet and writer-of-dreams. My partner–geology and nature geek. We had a great time.

The trip spawned poems, as trips do–three inspired by the volcano. The first you’ve already met: Museum at the End of the World, out last fall from Orion’s Belt.

The second appears in Star*Line 49.1, available now: the night we all had dreams. It’s not quite a palindrome, or if it is a palindrome, it isn’t perfect. We did shuffle like zombies after the night we all had dreams when we woke before dawn…and that’s about when I drafted the poem, illustrating that yes, zombies can write poetry.

The other poem in this issue of Star*Line is from a larger collection, The March. You can find one claw stuck in sky on the back cover.

The last of the Lassen set–toil, and–is due out later this spring. The sneak peak is that there may be something else from The March brewing. Stay tuned…

In the meantime, enjoy the many incredible poems in Star*Line 49.1! Happy New Year!
